Terms of Use

The short version

1. About these terms

This website at siddhantkumar.in, together with the companion site for Guardians in the Gale, is published by Siddhant Kumar, an individual in Delhi, India. By using the site you accept the terms set out on this page. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

2. What I own, and what you may do with it

The poems, the book text and extracts, the journal essays, the project build guides, the written descriptions, the page designs and the underlying code on this site are my original work and are protected by copyright. All rights are reserved.

You are welcome, without asking, to: read anything here; quote a short passage for review, journalism, study or commentary with clear attribution to Siddhant Kumar and a link to the page; and share links to any page.

Please do not, without my written permission: republish a poem, essay or guide in full or in substantial part anywhere else; sell or commercially exploit any of it; present it as your own work; or use it to train a commercial model where the output would substitute for the original. Genuine search-engine and answer-engine indexing that credits and links back to this site is welcome and is exactly what the site is built for.

To ask about any other use, including reprinting a poem, write to sid@siddhantkumar.in. I answer, and the answer is often yes.

3. Material that belongs to other people

Several kinds of third-party material appear here, and none of it is claimed as mine:

If you own rights in something shown here and would like it corrected, credited differently or taken down, write to me and I will deal with it quickly.

4. Safety notice for the project build guides

The project guides describe electronics and robotics builds. Some involve mains electricity, lithium batteries, high-current supplies, lasers, sharp tools, drones or moving mechanical parts, any of which can cause injury, fire, property damage or death if handled carelessly.

The guides are shared for education. They are written in good faith but are not reviewed engineering documents, they carry no warranty of correctness or safety, and they are not a substitute for a qualified person, the manufacturer's datasheet or the electrical, aviation and radio regulations that apply where you live. If you build any of it, you do so entirely at your own risk, you are responsible for your own safety and for complying with the law in your country, and you should get a competent adult or qualified professional involved for anything connected to mains power.

5. Accuracy, and no advice

The journal essays on military history, defence and geopolitics are personal commentary and study, written from published sources. They are not professional, policy, legal, financial or investment advice, they do not represent the views of any government, armed force or institution mentioned, and no official affiliation is implied. I try hard to be accurate and to correct mistakes — if you find one, please tell me — but I cannot guarantee that everything here is complete or current.

6. Links to other sites

Where this site links to somewhere else — a bookseller, a datasheet, an institution — that site is not under my control. I am not responsible for its content, its accuracy or its privacy practices, and a link is not an endorsement.

7. Availability

This is a personal website. I make no promise that it will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free, and I may change, move or remove any part of it at any time.

8. Limitation of liability

The site and everything on it are provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent the law allows. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I am not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of this site or from anything you build, do or decide on the basis of it. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

9. Privacy

How personal data is handled is set out in the Privacy Policy and the Cookie Policy, which form part of these terms.

10. Notices — email only

Any notice, complaint, claim, demand, takedown request or other formal communication relating to this website or to these terms must be sent by email to sid@siddhantkumar.in. A notice sent that way is treated as given on the day it is sent, or on the next working day if sent at a weekend or on a public holiday in India.

Notices on paper are not accepted. No postal address is maintained for this website, and none is held out for service of documents. Letters, legal notices, couriered packets and hand-delivered papers are not monitored and will not be treated as validly served or received. If you have something formal to raise, email it — attach a scan or a PDF if it needs to be a document, and it will be read.

By using this site you agree that communicating with me electronically satisfies any legal requirement that a communication be in writing. Where a statute or a court requires a specific method of service for a particular document, that requirement applies regardless of what this clause says; this clause states the channel I designate and monitor, and it is the one that will get you an answer.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at Delhi will have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident in the EU or the UK, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your own country.

12. Changes

These terms may be updated from time to time; the date at the top of this page shows when they last were. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.

All correspondence is by email. Questions, complaints, privacy requests and legal notices about this site should go to sid@siddhantkumar.in — the only channel that is monitored. Nothing sent on paper is accepted or read. I answer personally.
